Are You A Twitter Snob?

I think the big problem is that people have lost sight of what the "social" in social networking means.

When someone talks to me, I talk directly back. It's common courtesy. ;-)

The more followers you have, the more snobby you are. ;)

Haven't tried Twitter much. Been planning to try out though since it involves connecting with people and making relationships.

I heard someone say recently that if a blog is a business lunch, then Twitter is akin to a happy hour. I thought that was a great description. And at long last, I have officially joined Twitter as of this evening.

Melitsa - I know that long conversations of others can be fun to follow or even a bit annoying like you said, I tend to get involved reading them but it is a time waster so I try not to do this.

Tom - That's a great idea, instead of linking to your home page you can link directly to a page that shows a sign up for your newsletter. Great idea! Perfect way to build your contacts.

Noob - Hey you should share your twitter URL here too.

Neil - Yes, true the internet is used for all sorts of purposes. I can see your point, but I think mostly what bothers me is when people don't respond or follow others back. But like you say, everyone has their own choice. Thanks for sharing. :-)

You should definitely use Twitter to build relationships.If you are in the internet marketing niche you will make more sales if your visitors trust you.You can really use Twitter to your advantage and even Twitter your own newsletter if you have a one.

Twitter is a great place for relationship building as you suggested. I wonder how it'll be after all the politicking from the Election dies down. Relationships were surely tested with all the politics that was going around.

As with most things having a balance usually works. You need to respond like in any friendship. Who wants a one way relationship? Go talk to yourself elsewhere.

Long conversations where people @ each other can be a little annoying too.

Not without fault myself but jumping into another conversation always seems hard to me.

Like any part of the internet people use it for different purposes. Doesn't insisting people use twitter in the way you want them to make you a twitter snob yourself? ;)

Good point! Perhaps the reason I am a Twitter snob right now is because I don't get any responses with my comments on the posts - childish, but that what I did :P

Anyhow, I reconsider to wrote a reaction or two on any posts in Twitter to let Twitterworld know that I'm not a Twitter snob :D

Rob - Exactly, I love the way it's so easy to stay in touch and it gives people a peek into your work and who you are.

Lior - Yes, great ways to find people and build friendships.

Jessica - You know I thought the same thing before I started there, I figured it would suck all of my energy like an instant message chat, but you can take it or leave it. Many people have compared it to being at the water cooler in the office setting. Participate, or take a peek and say goodbye.

I am not Twittering at all. I find Twitter time consuming, so i never joined it at first place.

I use twitter for finding new information (new blogs, articles, quotes) and building relationships. Communicating on twitter and responding to tweets is a great way to share ideas.

I agree with you completely. Don't be on twitter if you are not interested in cultivating relationships with your customers or contacts. The whole principle behind twitter is that is an easy way to keep in touch with very little time investment.

It would be nice if you included your own twitter account to link to. Walking the talk, and all that. :)
