I have always been told email marketing is an effective way to get traffic. I think for a new website, article marketing is more effective because there are not enough visitors at the beginning. But gradually there should have a list.

Ed - Thanks! Glad your optin list is doing so well. Yes, it's very valuable and quick too.

Your brand image rocks! It's professional and to the point.

There's alot to be said about list building and that's why I have my "gift" when people subscribe to be all about building subscribers and customers.

OC - Thanks! I would always go for once per week, or at the very least once per month. Just whatever you do be consistent with it. If you're not subscribed to my newsletter I encourage you to as it has some great tips on building your list included.

OTM - No problem!

BL - sure thing that's another great way to connect with your audience.

Christine - Agreed!

FER - That's great news! I use Aweber myself.

Cesar - Awesome suggestion, thanks!

Dan - That's great to hear. Honestly, I have never used a service like this myself. I do all I can to generate interest in other ways like article marketing, podcasting, email marketing, etc.

Email marketing has been incredibly cost effective for our biz! We're really into being strategic and targeting our marketing funds like that.

On that note, I'm curious to hear your guys take on other cost-effective forms of marketing. For example, we were thinking of doing PR, but going with a charge-per-article-placed firm like <a href="http://www.publicityguaranteed.com" rel="nofollow">Publicity Guaranteed</a>. Curious what your thoughts are about places like that...

Useful post! Just an advice. If you use Google Analytics, do not forget use the "Analytics URL Generator" to track the effectiveness of your e-mail campaigns. Really a great tool.

Feriensprachreisen,

I use iContact. Friends of mine also use Constant Contact. Both work great. I chose iContact because it was simpler. The cost is the same give or take a few dollars. It also shows if they clicked on other links and which links. So from here you make a sub-list of people who for instance clicked on your newsletter link.

Very helpful.

This is a good post. Despite the fact that people are inundated with more email than ever, ezines are still one of the most effective and easiest ways to promote your services/products.

They are also great for establishing you as the expert in your niche and having a permission-based way to stay in front of your target market.

Office Cubicles, regarding your question--I am of the opinion that you should be sending out an e-zine every week, especially if you are just getting your business going.

Yes of course Email marketing can still work. I think it needs to be extended though and taken a step further. All email marketing should also be available via an RSS Feed!

Very well put, Vera. Although I have been using email marketing more often than not these past few months (b/c their return has been greatly outweighing our ppc camapigns), I haven't actually set them up in the form of a newsletter yet though so thank you kindly for the suggestion. How often would you suggest sending out a newsletter type email? Monthly, Bi-monthly, etc?? (I've just been re-marketing current offers/specials and trying to get our current cusomters/email list to refer/pass on to a friend).

Email is by far the most cost effective these days. I don't have a huge email list (yet) so I've been using campaign monitor as their system is super easy to use/manage, which is a big plus for me! So glad to have found your site. I will certainly check out Aweber to see if it may be a better fit for my needs.

Beautiful Vera. All you describe is what I do every week. I use html because of it's graphic impact. My opt-in list is growing nicely. My open rate is respectable. I definitely believe in this. I believe to be more receptive than traditional print because it goes directly into the hands of the recipient targeted.

I love knowing "exactly who" is opening. I accidently sent out my weekly free tip on a Sunday morning - I clicked the wrong button :) I had a dismal open rate. When I released on my typical Wednesday morning at 11, the open rate returned to normal. An accidental test, but it send a message.

All of my online activities are interconnected, so together they have a powerful presence I believe. All compliment my brand image. I am currently putting together a customer survey to be administered online. My target audience are 100% online - that makes it very good for my message. I can do more and track so easily. Just imagine how effectively you can apply customizing from your openings stats.
