It was pretty much the same for me. What I have found helpful was joining my local toastmasters group. They allowed me to get to know them first before I had to make the first speech, it made the whole experience much easier to bear. I get extremely nervous when I have to do something like that. With me, I just wish it was only my palms sweating. For now I may just accept that it is simply not for me.
