I have been to disneyworld a few times and totally agree with what you have said. I also really like your comment about how Disney makes you forget that you are walking around a giant set. It is scary to think of how powerful their "experience" is that you acatually forget what reality is. That Mickey Mouse has truly created the worlds largest "people trap".

One more thing to consider- Disney has their audience loving them so much 350,000 of them bought into their vacation club, which is their time-share properties that gives the purchaser 2 weeks accommodation for the next 50 years. And packages from 16 to 50,000 dollars - well you play with the numbers.

Anyway you look at Disney, it's a brand story worth learning a lesson from.

Ed,

Great post - Disney does have a manicured experience, but hey, we keep buying the admission tickets...

As you said, 'playing' at emotional level does prove to be the most effective marketing tool of all - as long as it is done consistently... and presistently :)

Why the disaster relief organisations kept displaying images and vids of sad people in adversities? They emotionally capture you to donate for the cause. Manicured? You bet. Effective? Of course!

Thanks for the pointers, Ed.
